Into The Cloud: Spotify Propels dPulse/Ovrtone To Record Sales

dPulse Recordings/Ovrtone notched new records in paid download sales (all formats) in its 7-year history for the monthly reporting period ending June 30 2010. Paced by the popularity of ‘cloud-based’ music discovery service Spotify.com, dPulse/Ovrtone frontline artists Kevin Max, 3kStatic and Greg X. Volz also saw unprecedented paid download/stream sales on Napster, Rhapsody and Apple Computer’s former lala.com. Company-wide, dPulse/Ovrtone saw 68,301 paid download sales of albums, mp3s and retail streams for the June 2010 reporting period. dPulse artist 3kStatic, Kevin Max, Greg X. Volz and represent far and away the largest shares of the company’s 2010 digital sales.

Electronica veterans 3kStatic are no strangers to heavy listenership on cloud-based music stores. Their dPulse album ‘Voodoo Science’ has charted in the Top 10 at We7.com for over 100 weeks, and the band was easily the label’s best-selling act at both lala.com and Rhapsody, having charted #1 albums on each.

The meteoric growth in cloud-based plays for music from frontline dPulse/Ovrtone artist Kevin Max and Greg X. Volz indicates the company and its key distribution partners are poised to maximize the next phase in digital content delivery.

dPulse will release Cotes d’ Armor (True Rebels) from former dcTalk vocalist and acclaimed solo artist Kevin Max on August 24. Greg X. Volz will join the reformed Classic Petra for a new album and tour later in 2010. The strong worldwide digital sales for these two multi-platinum, GRAMMY® and Dove Award-winning artists – along with new releases from cutting-edge bands such as 3kStatic – will continue to be the focus of growth for dPulse/Ovrtone into the future, and the company will make important announcements of new strategic alliances July 6, 2010.
